Below is a more detailed summary of available benefits:

Individuals and their eligible dependents (spouse and dependent children under 21 or under 26 and enrolled in full time education) are insured on the 1st day of the month following medical underwriting approval by Desjardins Financial Security.

Life Insurance

  • $50,000 payable in the event of death
  • Coverage terminate at age 65

Optional Life Insurance

  • Any Multiple of $10,000 with a minimum of $20,000 and a maximum of $1,000,000 (combined maximum of $1,000,000 includes basic life insurance)
  • Coverage terminates at age 65 or retirement, whichever occurs first

Accidental Death and Dismemberment

  • An additional $50,000 payable if death is a result of an accident
  • Coverage terminates at age 65

Weekly Income Benefit

  • $250 weekly for 26 weeks if necessary
  • Payable from the first day of accident or hospitalization (minimum of 18 consecutive hours) or the 15th day of sickness
  • Amounts of insurance from all sources are subject to a maximum of 85% of take home pay (gross income less Employment Insurance, Income Tax and Canadian Pension Plan)

Long Term Disability

  • Up to $3,000 monthly tax free to age 65, if necessary
  • Payable after continuous disability of 26 weeks (weekly income benefit paid during this time)
  • Amount of insurance from all sources subject to a maximum of 85% of your pre-disability earnings

Optional Critical Illness Insurance

  • Any multiple of $10,000 with a minimum of $20,000 and a maximum of $1,000,000
  • Coverage terminates at age 65 or retirement, whichever occurs first

Extended Health Care “Premier Plan

  • $10,000 prescription drug limit per insured individual, subject to 80% reimbursement
  • Prescription drug coverage with Drug Card (dispensing fee deductible)
  • Paramedical Services
  • Semi-private hospital, convalescent care, private-duty nursing
  • $5 million Emergency Medical Travel Coverage for trips up to the provincial duration
