Tooth decay more prevalent in younger students
New statistics show 17 per cent of children checked last year by public health staff had tooth decay. Staff of Hastings Prince Edward Public Health visited 55 schools in the two counties to check for oral health problems. They checked 5,549 students and found 923 had decay. Ten per cent of those checked — or 60 per cent of those with decay — were children eligible for the Children in Need of Treatment subsidy for dental care.
