Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

January 1, 2012 the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/html/statutes/english/elaws_statutes_05a11_e.htm came into effect.  All dental offices in Ontario must comply with the following:  The customer Service standard requires all organizations with less than 20 employees to:

  1. Create a plan: establish policies, practices and procedures governing the provision of its goods or service to persons with disabilities.
  2. Provide training: train staff, volunteers, contractors and any other people who are involved in the provision of goods or services on your plan and accessible customer services.

The Customer Service Standard requires all organizations with more than 20 employees to:

  1. Put it on paper: keep a written copy of your plan and let your customers know it is available, and keep a log of the training you’ve provided.
  2. Report it: report to the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services that you’ve met the requirements.
