Malpractice Insurance
The Canadian Dental Assistants’ Association has been offering malpractice or professional liability insurance to eligible dental assistants since 1998.
When we first introduced the program, many dental assistants believed it was not necessary to protect themselves since insurance policies held by their employer would cover them.
The truth is that everyone is vulnerable and all oral health care practitioners should be covered by their own malpractice insurance policy!
Dental assistants have been sued and have benefited from the advice, legal support and financial payments included with our national malpractice program.
The national malpractice insurance program is designed to provide the protection for injury to dental patients that result in large claims of pain/suffering/injury and even death. Anesthetic mistakes, hand slips, choking or even allergic reactions all pose serious risks to patients and could result in very large lawsuits!
The CDAA Malpractice Insurance Policy is in effect from February 1st to January 31st and can be renewed on an annual basis. You can purchase malpractice at the same cost throughout the year, however you will only be covered from the date we process your application to January 31st.
CDAA Malpractice Insurance is available only to dental assistants who are members to one of CDAA Corporate Members.
If you are registered with the Saskatchewan Dental Assistants Association, the College of Alberta Dental Assistants or the Manitoba Dental Assistants Association and starting January 2013 Newfoundland also, then your malpractice insurance coverage is included with your licensing fees. Unfortunately, for 2013 the CDAA does not have Corporate Members from Ontario or British Columbia, so we are unable to accept applications from these provinces.
